Shravan Maas Mahatya/శ్రావణమాసం విశిష్టత

Shravan maas/Sravanamasam is the fifth Hindu month.according to Vedas,shravan maas is highly auspicious month.Shravan Poornima (full moon day in sravanamasam) coincides with the birth star(shravana nakshatra) of Lord Sri Maha Vishnu.In this month there are three auspicious days in a week.shravan mangalvar(Tuesday),shravan sukrawar(Friday),shravan sanivar(Saturday)

On Tuesdays in this month(sravanamasam) married women performs this "Mangala Gowri Vrata" for a happy married life,to bless her husband for a long life and get rid of bad omens. This Shravana Mangala Gowri Vratam is observed widely by the women in Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and some parts of Maharashtra.

On Fridays in this month women perform Shravan Sukravar Vrata(Varalakshmi vratham).This vratham is performed on friday before the full moon day.
Shravan Poornima is also celebrated as "Raksha bandhan".
In shravan month lord Vishnu, goddess lakshmi aradhana(worshipping) is highly meritorious.
In 2011 shravan month begins on 31july and ends on 29 august.
